Title of the Practice: Digital Assignments

Needs identified:

  • Need to introduce online exams/assignments
  • Saving the yearly assignments in a CD/DVD
  • The use of computer as a learning resource
  • Inculcate interest in web browsing.


  • The students are given on line assignment through Google classroom for completion within the stipulated time.
  • Students work on assignments in the labs and submit through mail.
  • Assignments are evaluated, graded and relevant feedback is provided to students.
  • Weak areas are identified and suggestions are mailed.
  • Ability level of students is taken into consideration for further assignments.
  • This helps students become well versed with computer applications for academic and examination purposes

Title of the Practice: Virtual Labs

Virtual labs is an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Govt. of India under the National Mission on Education through Information and Communications Technology (NME-ICT). Amrita Vishwa Vidhyapeetham is one of the 12 institutes identified by MHRD to develop virtual labs and to give an opportunity to use free of cost under the Nodal Centre Program. Silver Jubilee Govt College has entered into MoU and identified as a nodal center for by Amrita Vishwa Vidhyapeetham.  It is offering high quality remote laboratory access through by providing Unique login IDS to all science students and teachers of our institute. The college has incorporated virtual labs in the curriculum and got approved in BoS

  • To enable students learn about sophisticated lab equipment

  • Bridge the gap between institutions/ industries that retain the physical laboratory and distantly placed economically challenged educational institutions


  • Unique login IDs help the students to access virtual labs at their own convenience.
  • Each experiment is provided with Theory, procedure and animation that helps student in self-learning.
  • Participation in evaluation and assignment helps in self-assessment.
  • Few experiments have virtual simulation to get real time experience.
  • Virtual lab classes are followed by discussions among the students and with the faculty culminating in student projects.

Evidence of success

  • Replaced the use of live specimens (frogs, fish, cockroaches etc.) in labs.
  • Provides better access to students compared to conventional labs
  • The student interactive session with faculty after the programme shows the interest evinced by the programme.
  • Login IDsare shared with the students and staff of other colleges for accessing virtual lab experience.
  • Our institution has been selected as one of the “top performing nodal centers” of Amrita labs based on the virtual lab usage and activities and our efforts were appreciated with an honorarium.
